Short answer: either works with our generators. A tank gives you 99% pure oxygen and needs a low-flow regulator; a concentrator makes oxygen from room air as you need it. Whichever you choose, only feed oxygen to a generator designed for oxygen.
Why an oxygen feed at all
Air is about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% trace gases. Some ozone applications need higher concentrations of ozone, which means starting with higher concentrations of oxygen. That is why our generators are fed by an oxygen tank or an oxygen concentrator.
Oxygen tanks
- Hold 99% pure oxygen.
- Available from welding shops, or through a prescription from your doctor.
- Need a regulator to control the flow. Our CGA-540 low-flow regulator fits oxygen cylinders up to 3,000 PSI, works with ozone generators, and has a wrench-tightened connection.
- Need refilling or swapping when they run out.
Oxygen concentrators
- Make oxygen from room air as you need it, so there is no tank to refill.
- Set the flow on the concentrator itself, matching the flow your output chart calls for.
- Need power while running.
How to choose
If you use your generator occasionally, a tank and regulator is simple and needs no power for the oxygen side. If you use it often, a concentrator saves trips to refill a tank. Either way, set the flow to match your output chart, because flow rate is one of the two things that decide your ozone concentration.
The rule you must never break
Bottled oxygen should only be used with ozone generators designed to be fed with purified oxygen. Never feed oxygen to a generator designed to run on air. Our WPS-100, WPS-400 and WPS-120 are all designed to be fed by an oxygen tank or an oxygen concentrator.
Questions we get asked
Do your generators include an oxygen source?
No. The oxygen tank or concentrator is sold separately. The WPS-100 and WPS-400 come with the hoses needed to connect to oxygen.
What regulator fits a standard oxygen cylinder?
Our CGA-540 low-flow regulator is compatible with oxygen cylinders up to 3,000 PSI.
Does the flow rate change my ozone level?
Yes. On oxygen-fed generators a slower flow gives a higher concentration and a faster flow a lower one. Check your output chart.
A note on safety
Ozone is a strong oxidizer and it is harmful to breathe. Run your generator in a well ventilated room, keep the ozone inside tubing and closed containers, never breathe it directly, and follow the instructions that come with your unit.
